My Body, Movement & Wellness
Objectives
- D03.S1.08.01 Explain the basic role of the nervous system in sensing and responding, such as the fight, flight, or rest response.
- D03.S1.08.02 Describe how stress affects the body over time and name healthy ways to help the body return to calm.
- D03.S2.08.01 Design a short movement routine and explain how each part builds strength, endurance, or flexibility.
- D03.S2.08.02 Demonstrate fair play and inclusive practices that welcome peers of all abilities into movement and games.
Essential questions
- How does my nervous system sense and respond — fight, flight, or rest — and how does stress affect my body over time?
- How do I design movement that builds strength, endurance, and flexibility, and make games and movement welcome every ability?
Big ideas
- The nervous system moves the body between fight, flight, and rest, and stress that lingers has a real cost the body can be helped to unwind.
- Movement can be designed with purpose — strength, endurance, flexibility — and fair play and inclusive practices welcome every body and ability.
Lessons
- 1 My Body, Movement & Wellness: Where We've Been, Where We're Going 50 minutes
- 2 Fight, Flight, or Rest: How My Nervous System Senses and Responds 50 minutes
- 3 When Stress Stays: The Cost and the Way Back to Calm 50 minutes

Assessment plan
Observation of a learner explaining the nervous system's fight, flight, or rest response and naming healthy ways to return to calm; a designed movement routine with each part labeled by strength, endurance, or flexibility; and evidence of fair play and inclusive practices in games as portfolio artifacts.
Unit 2 — My Body, Movement & Wellness
Overview
This unit reads the body with new inward precision, building on Grade 7’s naming of internal body signals and its reading of how movement changes during puberty. Learners explain the basic role of the nervous system in sensing and responding — the fight, flight, or rest response — and describe how stress affects the body over time, naming healthy ways to help the body return to calm. They design a short movement routine and explain how each part builds strength, endurance, or flexibility, and demonstrate fair play and inclusive practices that welcome peers of all abilities into movement and games. The body is taught with dignity and joy, honoring the wide range of bodies and abilities.
Essential questions
