Observation of art-making, singing with a steady beat, and expressive movement; a drawing or painting and a built-and-improved object as portfolio artifacts.

Unit 7 — Making, Music & Movement

Overview

This unit gives the whole body and the imagination to making. Learners create a drawing or painting with lines, shapes, and colors and look at an artwork, noticing something and a feeling it gives them; sing a simple song and keep a steady beat, telling loud from soft and fast from slow; move their body to show a feeling and pretend to be a character using voice, face, and body; and build something with a simple plan, then test it and change one thing to make it work better. Art is a way of knowing and sharing the world — every culture’s arts are living heritage, not a museum piece.

Essential questions

  • How do I make and share what I see, hear, and feel?
  • How can I plan, make, and improve something of my own?
