Unit 8 — Healthy, Safe & Strong
Overview
This unit returns to the body with growing independence, building on Grade 3’s sense of what a body needs and where food comes from. Learners read simple nutrition information on food packages and use it to make a healthier choice, and describe how different families and cultures eat different healthy foods, treating every way of eating with respect. They name and practice basic safety rules for home, road, water, and weather — fire, crossing, swimming, and storms — and explain safe and respectful behavior online, including not sharing private information and where to get help. The body is taught with dignity and joy, never shame, and the wide range of bodies, families, and ways of eating is honored.
Essential questions
- How do I use food information to make choices that keep me well?
- How do I keep myself safe at home, near roads and water, in weather, and online?
