Observation of making, singing, and pretend play; a self-chosen artwork and a built object as portfolio artifacts.

Unit 7 — Making & Imagining

Overview

This unit celebrates making as a way of knowing. Children create art with different materials and describe what they made, sing and clap simple rhythms, move and pretend as people and animals and characters, and build things from whatever is at hand. Art here is not decoration; it is a voice that does not require words, and every child’s making is honored as worthy of attention and story.

Essential questions

  • How do I make and share art with my hands, voice, and body?
  • How do I turn an idea into something I build?
