Unit 2 — My Body, My Senses

Overview

Building on Kindergarten’s five senses, this unit names the body’s parts and what each can do, and — new this year — tunes the child into the body’s own signals: hunger, thirst, and tiredness, noticed and named. The whole moving body is honored: learners skip, gallop, hop, and jump with balance and control, and practice the small hand movements of cutting, threading, and buttoning. The body is taught with dignity and joy, honoring the wide range of bodies and abilities humans have.

Essential questions

  • What does my body tell me, and how do I listen to it?
  • How does my body move through the world?
