Unit 10 — Fairness & Our Shared Rules

Overview

This unit begins the discipline of ethics as a living practice. Learners name a kind and an unkind choice and give a reason why a story character made a good or hurtful choice; describe a fair and an unfair way to share and name one thing everyone in the class needs to feel safe; help make a class rule or choice with a reason and do a small job that helps the classroom or school; and use words to say how they feel in a conflict, listen to a friend, and suggest a way to make things right. Questions are held as questions, not answered as dogma — fairness is practiced, not preached.

Essential questions

  • What is fair, and how do we decide together?
  • How do we solve problems and make things right?
