My Body, My Senses & Movement
Objectives
- D03.S1.03.01 Describe how two senses can work together, such as taste and smell, to give a fuller picture of something.
- D03.S1.03.02 Recognize early body signals of hunger, fullness, thirst, and tiredness and say one helpful response to each.
- D03.S2.03.01 Perform a short movement sequence, such as a dance or obstacle course, with rhythm and balance.
- D03.S2.03.02 Improve hand-eye coordination through games and tasks such as tossing, catching, and aiming at a target.
Essential questions
- How do my senses work together to tell me about the world and my own body?
- How does my body move with rhythm, balance, and control?
Big ideas
- My senses team up, and my body sends signals I can notice and answer.
- I can move in sequences with rhythm and balance, and my coordination grows with practice.

Unit 2 — My Body, My Senses & Movement
Overview
This unit returns to the body, building on Grade 2’s matching of each sense to the body part that senses and noticing where a feeling shows up in the body. Learners now describe how two senses can work together, such as taste and smell, to give a fuller picture of something; recognize the early body signals of hunger, fullness, thirst, and tiredness and name one helpful response to each; perform a short movement sequence such as a dance or obstacle course with rhythm and balance; and improve hand-eye coordination through games of tossing, catching, and aiming at a target. The body is honored with dignity and joy, and the wide range of bodies and abilities is welcomed. Where tools appear — a camera, a tablet, a music player — learners notice what a machine can do (record or replay a sound, a picture, or a beat) and what only their own living body can do (sense, signal, and move), and they begin to see that tools are made somewhere and need power, while the body makes its own beat and awareness with nothing but itself.
Essential questions
- How do my senses work together to tell me about the world and my own body?
- How does my body move with rhythm, balance, and control?
