Overview
This unit steps into the wider human story, building on Grade 2’s simple timelines and then-and-now stories. Learners place local events or landmarks on a timeline in order and explain how they know the order is correct; describe how a place or community changed over a long time and what caused one of those changes; compare how two peoples met basic needs for food, shelter, and clothing and explain how their environment shaped those choices; describe a story, song, or art form from a culture and what it shows about what that culture values; describe reasons people move from one place to another; explain how rivers, mountains, or climate shaped where people chose to settle; and describe a story of people working together to change something unfair, and what it means to have power or a say in a group. History is told from many perspectives, honoring the voices too often left out.
