Overview
This unit gives craft to the imagination, building on Grade 3’s pattern, rhythm, dance, and design. Learners create an artwork that shows depth or space by overlapping, size, or placement, and identify the subject, materials, and likely purpose of an artwork from another culture, naming one respectful question about it. They read and play or sing a simple melody or rhythm from basic notation, describe how the music of another culture uses its own instruments, scales, or rhythms, learn and perform a simple dance or movement form from another culture and describe its meaning or occasion, create a character using voice, body, and a simple prop, design and make something for a specific user and need with feedback to improve it, and explain how an object from another culture reflects that culture’s materials, needs, and ideas. The arts of many cultures are honored as living heritage, not museum pieces.
