Unit 9 — Healthy, Safe & Strong
Overview
This unit returns to the body with growing independence, building on Grade 4’s nutrition labels, safety rules, and online safety. Learners explain how nutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, and water support different parts of the body, and describe how having too little or too much of certain foods affects the body over time, without judging any body. They describe how to respond in an emergency, including how to call for help and what information to give, and explain the idea of consent for one’s own body and respect for the boundaries of others. The body is taught with dignity and joy, never shame, and the wide range of bodies, families, and ways of eating is honored.
Essential questions
- How do nutrients and my choices keep my body well?
- How do I respond in an emergency, and what does consent mean?
