Unit 8 — Healthy, Safe & Strong: Puberty & Self-Care
Overview
This unit returns to the body at a turning point, building on Grade 5’s nutrients, emergency response, and consent. Learners describe the basic changes of puberty and that they happen at different times for different people, analyze a typical day of food and drink and identify one change that would better fuel the body, and explain how food is produced and transported and how this affects people and the environment. They assess everyday risks in play, travel, and online life and choose safer actions, and identify signs of stress or distress in themselves and name one self-care action and one person to talk to. Every body, every pace, and every family’s way of eating is honored; the body is taught with dignity and joy, never shame.
Essential questions
