Unit 10 — Health, Sexuality & Safety

Overview

This unit returns to the body at a turning point with the honesty and agency high school demands, building on Grade 8’s substance awareness and self-care. Learners explain the basics of sexual and reproductive health — anatomy, consent, and how to access accurate information and care — and recognize signs of mental-health struggle in themselves or others and describe how and where to seek help. Every body, every pace, and every family’s way of living is honored; the body is taught with dignity, never shame; and questions are met with accurate information and care, not fear. Seeking help is named as a strength, and no learner is left to face these questions alone.

Essential questions

  • What are the basics of sexual and reproductive health — anatomy, consent, and how to access accurate information and care — and how do I hold them with dignity and without shame?
  • How do I recognize signs of mental-health struggle in myself or others, and how and where do I seek help?
