Unit 9 — People, Places & Long Ago
Overview
This unit steps into the wider human story, building on Grade 1’s sequencing of a day and Kindergarten’s “then and now.” Learners order events from their family’s or community’s recent past on a simple timeline, describe how one part of daily life has changed over time and one way it has stayed the same, describe the daily life of children in another place or time, identify a knowledge or skill a people has developed, explain what people need from their environment and how people in different places meet those needs, describe how people adapt to a very different environment, and identify fair and unfair ways of treating people and a story of someone who helped or spoke up. History is told from many perspectives, never a single nation’s triumph.
