A lifelong-food-decisions synthesis weighing nutrition science with ethical, cultural, and environmental considerations; a food-systems advocacy linking individual and collective wellbeing; an independent health-management plan covering sleep, movement, nutrition, mental health, and medical care; and an emergency-response and caregiving plan, gathered as capstone portfolio artifacts.

Unit 8 — Health, Nutrition & Care

Overview

This unit returns to the body at the threshold of adult life, now with independence and care for others. Learners synthesize the science of nutrition with ethical, cultural, and environmental considerations to make lifelong food decisions, and advocate for food systems and policies that support health and dignity for all people, linking individual and collective wellbeing. They manage their own health independently, integrating sleep, movement, nutrition, mental health, and medical care, and explain how to care for the health and safety of others, including basic emergency response and caregiving, and when to step in. Every body, every pace, and every family’s way of living is honored; the body is taught with dignity, never shame.
